Smart Warehouse Upgrade for Food & Beverage Industry: Enhancing Efficiency and Sustainability
With the growing importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards, food and beverage manufacturers are placing greater emphasis on supply chain sustainability, product safety, and operational efficiency. As raw material storage plays a critical role in ensuring product quality, optimizing warehouse operations has become a key priority.
Against this background, a globally recognized food and beverage company partnered with China JSSL Company to upgrade its raw material warehouse with an intelligent automation solution, aiming to improve efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability.
Challenges in Traditional Raw Material Warehousing
Before the upgrade, the 550㎡ warehouse-used for storing materials such as sugar and non-dairy creamer-faced several operational challenges:
Low storage density: Only ~480 pallet positions, requiring external warehouse rental
High labor dependency: Manual forklift operations for inbound, outbound, and replenishment
Inventory inaccuracies: Lack of real-time tracking and data synchronization
Operational inefficiency: Slow response to production line material demands
Safety risks: Irregular stacking and limited safety monitoring
These issues limited production efficiency and increased operational costs.

Intelligent Four-Way Shuttle Solution
To address these challenges, China JSSL Company implemented a four-way shuttle-based dense storage system, combined with WMS and WCS software for full process automation.
Storage Optimization
Storage capacity increased from 480 to 700 positions (+40%)
Vertical space fully utilized, eliminating the need for external warehouses
Automated Inbound Process
Materials are placed on conveyors, automatically inspected and scanned, then assigned storage locations by the system. Shuttle vehicles and lifts complete storage without manual handling.
Automated Outbound Process
Based on production orders from ERP/SAP systems, materials are automatically delivered to designated production stations, eliminating forklift operations and reducing labor intensity.
